Much the worse for drink, two brothers set fire to the family farm, inadvertently causing the death of a tramp hiding there. The elder shoulders the blame, protecting his younger brother. Ten years later, Roland leaves prison and returns to see Gérard who immediately thinks Roland is out for revenge...
